Day tours on the oak boat Örkin (The Ark)
Join us for a day tour from Siglufjörður, for an immersive journey through the history and culture of Iceland’s Arctic coastline.
Take a step back in time as we sail from Siglufjörður harbour towards the old settlement at Siglunes, the peninsula guarding Siglufjörður from the unrelenting waves of the Arctic Ocean. From here we head west, taking a peek at Héðinsfjörður, abandoned by people since the 1950’s. Here you’ll discover the fascinating stories that took place in the fjord, and the people who challenged the elements for survival.
Heading further west, we then find ourselves face to face with the imposing Hvanndalabjarg – at 660 m, the highest sea cliffs in Iceland. You might think they’re so impressive that only giants could ever live there – and you could just be right!
Heading back, we return to Siglufjörður as locals have through the ages, skirting the coastline before heading back to the harbour.
This day tour offers a tour on a renovated oak boat, plentiful storytelling, majestic views from the sea, birdlife – and even a possible sighting of other marine wildlife!
