The trip starts at our offic at Suðurgata 10, where you meet the guide and gather in cars. From our office it’s only a 5 minute drive to the start of the hike.

After we leave the cars we start the hike, following the coastline from Staðarhólsströnd, to the lighthouse at Selnes. Throughout the whole hike we have a magical view over the town of Siglufjörður, as well over to the old settlement at Siglunes, where the last people moved away in 1988.

The hike will lead you through the history of Siglufjörður; we will hike through the ruins of the Evanger factory, a large herring factory that started production in 1911. In 1919, a massive avalanche came roaring down the mountains, destroying the factory and the few houses that surrounded it.

The roundtrip to and from the lighthouse will take us about 3.5 hrs.  If there is extra time our path will take us up to Kálfadalsvatn, where the tranquility is even more memorable than the nature. An experienced guide will follow the group and cover the history of the fjord.

Distance: 8 km

Please note: the trail is quite marshy and you will most likely wet your feet.  Wear shoes that are appropriate for that and bring extra footwear to put on after the hike.
