The trip starts from our office, Hvanneyrarbraut 40.

At the bottom of Siglufjörður to the west is the valley Skarðsdalur, best known as the ski-area. At the end of Skarðsdalur, one can see an old road slither down the mountain from a pass through the mountain range, blown open in 1940. Siglufjörður was until then isolated from other regions and without any road connectivity. 1946 saw the first road connecting Siglufjörður to Fljót through Siglufjarðarskar, a seasonal road that provided the only road connection until the the opening of the tunnel Strákagöng in 1967.

The hike starts by the Hraun farm. From there we will follow the old postal route, leading us steadily up the mountain while we enjoy a magnificent view of the Arctic ocean. When we reach the Siglufjarðarskarð pass, we have a view over Siglufjörður on one hand and Fljótin on the other. We follow the ski road down to town, with a visit to the forestry on the way.
