An opportunity to connect – and disconnect
We have curated this all-women backcountry expedition in order to celebrate the spirit of female adventurers. It offers a space where women can connect, challenge themselves, creating lasting memories at the same time.
The tour starts from Ísafjörður, the capital of the Westfjords. From there we navigate to the southern fjords of Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, a pristine wilderness teeming with snow-clad slopes. This region is uninhabited by all but our friend the Arctic Fox. It is a perfect place to disconnect from daily life and feel free and wild.
For five days we will traverse mountains, slopes and fjords, losing ourselves in the unique beauty of the Westfjords’ rugged terrain. One of the highlights of the journey is the seamless transition from the icy slopes down to the shore of the pristine waters of the Westfjords of Iceland.
A female crew for an inspirational adventure
Captain Hayat Mokhenache is an experienced explorer, who has sailed in high latitudes for the past 12 years. In that time, she spent a lot of time sailing in Arctic oceans – East and West Greenland, Jan Mayen, Norway and Iceland. She has a passion for empowering women in the realm of outdoor adventure. Hayat will provide a safe and exhilarating journey, while navigating the waters with precision and expertise.
Under the leadership of skilled ski guide Sara Hlín Sigurðardóttir, the group will navigate the backcountry. We will carve through powder-covered slopes, happy in the sheer thrill of untouched descents.
Örkin, our expedition boat
The traditional oak boat Örkin, serves as our transport and accommodation. Originally built as a fishing vessel, has been comfortably remade into a passenger vessel with rustic charm. She is perfect for nature adventures and provides space where stories are shared and friendships are forged.
