Icelandic spring is well upon us. Here in the north, we’ve gone from barely three hours of shadowed daylight to 24-hour light, and we are loving it! The birds have returned and we’re enjoying hearing the snipe with their distinctive swoop, the vocal godwits, and even the warning cries of the arctic terns.

How best to enjoy it?

Sea kayaking is an exceptional way to experience Icelandic spring. Cruising along the rugged coastline in a stunning landscape is a spectacular experience, and our four-day sea kayaking course is the perfect way for paddlers of all experience levels to get out on the water!

Enjoy connecting to nature

Sea kayaking in the northern fjords immerses you in a world of natural wonders, forging an intimate connection with the country’s pristine environment. As you paddle through tranquil fjords and secluded bays, you’ll witness Iceland’s raw beauty up close. The serene surroundings, with hints of historic settlements, offer a genuine escape from the bustling world, allowing you to embrace the solitude and reconnect with nature.

We’ve talked about some of the birds, but Iceland’s migratory season is something that has to be seen to be believed. Enjoy a cacophony of birdsong beneath soaring cliffs – a sense of tranquility on the waves beneath the chaotic choruses of all kinds of ducks (no fewer than 16 varieties are known to nest in Iceland), sea birds and wading species – it’s something you just have to experience first-hand!

Reconnect with yourself

Sea kayaking is not only an exhilarating adventure but also a fantastic workout. Paddling engages your core muscles, builds upper body strength, and improves cardiovascular fitness. As you navigate the tranquil Icelandic waters, the rhythmic motion of paddling can have a calming effect on the mind, reducing stress and enhancing mental well-being. The combination of physical exertion and the tranquil environment creates a perfect balance, leaving you refreshed and rejuvenated.

As if that wasn’t enough, participants will also enjoy unique flotation relaxation treatments at Sóti Lodge as part of the experience. Flotation treatments are the perfect way to relax tired muscles and soothe the mind, ready for another day on the waves.

And did we mention that, like all of our multi-day trips, full-board accommodation at Sóti Lodge is included? That means gourmet three-course dinners, delicious continental breakfasts, contemporary en-suite rooms, a purpose-built drying room for equipment… the list goes on!

Experienced Guides and Safety

As with all of our tours and courses, we prioritise safety and quality. This year’s sea kayaking adventure will be run by none other than Kristján of Kontiki Kayaks, who has years of experience keeping people safe on the water.
